ZiMAD’s Secret to Ad Success: ‘If a Network Supports These Ad Types, We’ll Consider It’ image

Every day, ZiMAD's Head of Ad Monetization, Natalia Simdianova, is making sure everyone’s in sync, using Jira to keep tasks organised and debugging tools like Unity and MAX Mediation Debugger to catch problems before they turn into even bigger issues.

But it’s not just about the tech - it’s about making sure everyone’s talking, solving issues fast, and staying flexible. This is how Natalia keeps ad integrations running smoothly and profitably.

ZiMAD leverages Jira and debugging tools to streamline monetization and technical team collaboration

On a daily basis, we use Jira to set up tasks and monitor their progress and status. Additionally, we utilize several tools to streamline testing, including Unity debugging solutions, MAX Mediation Debugger, and test sections available in ad networks’ dashboards. These tools help ensure smoother integration and quicker identification of potential issues.

Strategic evaluation of mediation platforms ensures ZiMAD's ad integrations are scalable and effective

We have 90% IAA and 10% of IAP. Nowadays, our primary focus is on ads. The planning process depends on the specific app we are working with. Typically, we use traditional ad formats such as banners, rewarded videos, and interstitial ads. If a network supports these ad types, there is a higher likelihood that we will consider and review them for future integrations.

Additionally, we evaluate key factors such as eCPM rates, geographic coverage, and the type of integration offered. Our priority is direct SDK adapter integrations that are officially supported by the mediation platform.

Proactive log monitoring and tech support engagement help overcome common integration challenges

The most common issue we encounter is the inability to see requests or impressions from the SDK. Typically, we resolve such issues by reviewing the logs and reaching out to the network’s technical support team, providing all the necessary information, such as logs and IDs.

Daily monitoring of SDK and adapter updates by ZiMAD reduces ANR and crash rates

Our POC manager keeps us informed about all significant new releases of SDKs and adapters. While we occasionally review digests or check updates ourselves, this approach is less common.

Regarding ANRs and crashes, we actively monitor Crashlytics and Google Play Console daily. If we encounter any issues, we promptly notify our tech engineers or our manager.

Technical precision of ad creatives is crucial for optimizing CTR, fill rate, and user retention

The correct technical integration has a significant impact on all ad metrics. Factors such as visibility, smart UX/UI design, and essential components like close, install, CTA, and skip buttons are crucial elements for creating profitable ad creatives.

While the quality and diversity of content also impact ad performance, their impact is not always entirely positive or negative, it depends on the specific context.

Comprehensive test mode validation across key regions and formats strengthens ZiMAD's QA process

The availability of test mode is one of the most critical aspects of the QA routine. We manually verify all ad formats and top countries (e.g., the US, EU with separate consent policies, Asia, and CIS regions) by enabling test mode on the mediation platform and the networks’ side.

We use mediation statistics or tools to ensure that test requests and impressions are being counted accurately. We also use Impression-Level Revenue data, which helps us track every impression from a network. This data is then sent to MMP services for further analysis.

Prioritising ILRD and API reporting integration for accurate ROI tracking and efficient performance monitoring

ILRD and API reporting are critical features for our ad department. ILRD enables us to calculate ROI precisely, while API settings allow us to build an internal reporting system that lets us monitor and compare results with mediation reports efficiently, without having to check individual network dashboards one by one. In most cases, we do not collaborate with networks that don't support these features.

Regarding the ad quality of creatives, it is not something we prioritize entirely, as these features occasionally impact ANR metrics on Android devices. However, we have our professional support team that assists with any creative-related issues users may encounter. Additionally, creative debugging tools are valuable for identifying and resolving problematic creatives.
